Premier League Fixtures - 13th-15th September (Spoilers)

We all know it was never a straight read, he didn't even have a min to think it over or talk to his linesman, he came running up and bam red card was out.

To be fair, it was a blatent rugby tackle, no attempt to get at the ball, still doesn't suprise me he got off the hook, can't ban the england captain :p

I'm very surprised it was overturned not because he deserved a red but that the FA usually find a way of wriggling out of it.
Halsey should've just given a yellow and been done with it but I think he changed his decision from a red for a professional foul with Terry being the last man and Jo being in a goal scoring position (which neither was) to a straight red for serious foul play just to stop him looking stupid.
Unfortunately for him it wasn't serious foul play either (Serious foul play is classed as when a player "uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is play") and the adjudicating committee had no option but to overturn it, excellent:)

Similar to a Carragher special imo- should be a straight red as no attempt at getting the ball was made

Doesnt surprise me that he got off though

It wasn't a straight red, stop kidding yourselves.

If it was then so was Vidic's against Keane, I don't care how quick Ferdinand is.

What irritates me about the whole thing is that the FA rules say you can't reduce a card to a yellow, so to recind a red card, it must be judged to have not been worthy of a card at all, which that clearly was.

I think its a stupid rule, but whats the point in having them if you just ignore them whenever it suits?

And what offence would you put the straight red down to, obstruction?

Sorry , what I was meaning is that the rule should be changed as that kind of thing should be a straight red

I appreciate it isnt under the current rules

When no attempt to play the ball, and the opposing player is just taken out - its not how the game should be played imo

Also a very good point

well, it clearly sets a precedent now! It practically send a message out saying that:- you can rugby tackle players and not get a card.
