Premier League publish squad lists

I still don't really understand the point either. Either you want the England manager to have more choices or not. A good few of our youth squad are classed as home grown players even though they're not English. If somebody has dual citizen ship then fair enough, it may well be the case that they could be enticed to play for England. Somebody like Cesc isn't really.

Edit - mmm.. appears that Arteta wouldn't be available for England.

Waste of time? Isn't that the entire point?

Well the under 21s can be made of any nationality so it's of no relevance to what the FA are trying to achieve here unless I'm completely misunderstand this. What happens when they mature from the age group? Are they no longer eligible? If the Window is closed or the places are filled then surely there's no room for them to progress.

I still think that although the Premier league has benefited highly for having foreign players, a starting 11 should contain at least 3 national players.. A bit like the old days but then i'm a bit old school :p

Isn't that what we'll have eventually progressed to? I thought this was only the first tranche of changes.

One of the red tops is running riot over this. There are no Englishmen in Arsenal's 25 and they have named 70 odd under 21's.

It is strange. We've only named 20 in our '25'. Though to be fair players like Wilshere (who are English & homegrown) have been left out of that 20.

The rule was pointless, it was never going to increase the numbers of englishmen Capello could choose from, the only thing it is, is borderline(or not really that borderline) ageist, and I'd laugh if someone got caught being over 21, say at City, unable to be sold and sued the league for restraint of trade or something.

Why shouldn't a club be able to only have 22 year old and ups in the squad? I really have no idea who came up with the rule, all it does is encourage clubs to have more crap young players and get rid of older better players, which will make the league worse, the whole thing was thought up by some retard, but then, isn't that what you expect from our FA anyway?

This rule is stupid...if they want to promote english why not minimum of 4 english players? and 2 on the bench? this rule is no different to what each club does every year anyways

We have only named 20 players and left all our Under-21s unregistered because Arsene Wenger is planning a spending spree in January, and will bring in 5 new faces, including a goalkeeper, extra defensive midfielders and another centre-half.

IN OPPOSITE LAND

He's English as well. One of two players that Wenger said had 'nothing left to learn'. Don't even recall him being in the Carling Cup sides though.

Just noticed we only have 7 home grown players on that list (out of 20). Who's missing?

???

Not sure anyone is 'missing' per se, but under these ridiculous rules a place not taken up in the 25 counts as 'homegrown' if you have unregistered under 21s who are homegrown. I think.

So we don't actually have 8 registered homegrown players but can make the numbers up from those other 70-odd u21s; Wilshere, Ramsey etc. etc.

I have no idea if you could take this to an extreme and just name 17 foreign players, no homegrown players, and make it up from u21s. It's all a bit of a farce, and unless these rules are ratcheted up and become more stringent year on year, they're utterly pointless.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they're supposed to get worse next season. Might be wrong though.

EDIT: Also,

• Each Club must submit a squad by 5pm on 1st September containing no more than 17 players who do not fulfill the Home Grown Player criteria. The remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be Home Grown.

yeah, it's more a requirement that states you can't have more than 17 foreign players than a requirement on how many of them have to be home-grown. The whole thing has been stated in a rather strange way...

Also Weebull, think you missed my sarcasm in an earlier post :p

try highlighting it! ;)

You mean my \o/? You mean you actually don't know what Arsene Wenger is thinking?

My faith in you is shattered. I am a broken man.
