Premier League tickets - how do I buy them?

Hi guys,

For anyone who goes to watch Premier League games, how do you go about buying tickets for them? The whole process seems a little confusing...

I'm a Liverpool fan and live reasonably close to London so I would like to see them play a London based team - I really don't mind who, just watching them at all would be good.

What do I have to do to get tickets for said game - do I have to buy a LFC membership to even have any hope of getting a ticket?

Many thanks!

There's all the latest ticket info for Liverpool games, however you've got next to no chance of getting a ticket for any game let alone an away game.

Your best bet would be to become an official member and you might be able to grab a ticket on the ticket exchange thing (if you've got a ticket but can't attend, you can make it available to somebody else through the club) but that's for home games only IINM. Other than that, you've got to hope for a last minute rearranged game (like yesterday, tickets went onto a general sale the day of the game) but again you still won't get a ticket for an away game.

What are the chances of getting a ticket for the everton on the 6th of Feb?

Next to none.

I'm guessing you're not a member that has been to the City or Wigan games, in which you're relying on the ticket exchange (you'll have to become a member to use that).

I've never used the ticket exchange so I'm not sure how often tickets become available there but I can't see many, if any at all, becoming available so I doubt you've got much chance of being online if/when 1 becomes available on there.

For most of the higher up clubs, tickets are hard, but not impossible to get, it would seem being a member and going to the easier to get tickets for games tends to be the way to do it.

Even if you joined as a member for another club, Arsenal say, you can get quite a lot of tickets as a £30 member pretty easily, but you won't have a chance in hell of getting, London games, the big 5-6 teams and certainly not Liverpool.

Best bet is just spend a lot, make a decent day of it and go to a Liverpool home game against someone rather poop that is easier to get tickets for.

So I'd say join as a Liverpool member, keep an eye out, learn exactly what times tickets go on sale and when you might get a chance as a lower level member(assuming levels which there normally is). The difference as an Arsenal member between sitting and waiting for them to go on sale to red(lowest level) members and being ready with card and numbers etc at the exact minute they go on sale, and trying an hour or two later is often the difference between getting tickets and not.

The other option is of course things like FA cup and even more so, Carling cup games, crapper the opposition and earlier the round the better.

Then there is a few places that sell big game tickets, for several hundred quid, which is a ridiculous price to be paying regularly, but a one off, might be worth it. Theres places around you probably could get a Liverpool vs london team for at a guess, £300+ . Personally I'd just join as a Pool member and put that money towards 4-5 smaller games and train tickets there and back.

It's worth noting that this is entirely illegal, so if you get stitched up you'll probably never see the cash again.

Nail on the head. It is insanely difficult to get away tickets at the best of times, let alone against a London team. Just keep an eye on an upcoming fixture that you fancy and remember the date that the tickets go on sale, 8.30 that morning get straight on the phone or online sale, I don't think you should have too much trouble getting a ticket to Anfield. Membership could also be useful for ticket exchanges and/or getting priority on tickets over a regular general sale. :)

I just wait 'til Arsenal are playing anywhere in the midlands/north and sit in with the home fans. Like I will be doing at Stoke on Sunday :D

Thanks for the advice guys. Would anything be wrong with doing the following? Becoming a member of a London based team such as Fulham (Would they be the easiest to get big 5-6 tickets for?) and going to Liverpool play them away. Or would all the seats automatically be taken by the Fulham fans with a season ticket as opposed to just a membership?

Thanks again in advance!

It would certainly be easier if you're willing to sit with the home fans. The problem you're now facing is that Liverpool have played all the London based sides away except Arsenal and your highly unlikely to get tickets for that game.

To be honest it's going to be difficult if you're restricting yourself to games in and around London. There's only 5 London clubs in the league at the moment and they're all likely to sell-out for the big games (even Chelsea). I don't know the exact criteria for tickets for other clubs but it will no doubt be based on loyalty so becoming a basic member will probably not be enough (you'll need to be a higher tier member or have been to other games during the season etc) and even if it is, you'll probably be restricted to 1 ticket per member.

Your best bet is to become a member and go to Anfield for 1 of the first home games of the season, before all the loyalty stuff kicks in.

Season tickets get them automatically, and get an option on further tickets for a certain length of time, then it's to Memberships, then after that to the general public. On away games they generally sell behind the goal to either all away (only the clubs with a large away support), or split it with away and a more neutral, mixed support. So your best bet is probably to just try get tickets that way. I can't remember if they sell the whole lot to Liverpool or not.

I've spoken to a few people who have done similar to you at Fulham, have always followed a bigger team, and bought Fulham as they're from there, and then become a Fulham fan. If you DO decide to buy in a home seat...just don't celebrate for Liverpool...lol.

.just don't celebrate for Liverpool...lol.

As long you don't sit in the cheap seats does it really matter? See a few away fans in the home end and never caused a problem

EDIT, appart from the riddicule they get at the end when they lose

If you're wearing the colours/celebrate, in either of the three stands, you'll generally get kicked out, seen it numerous times. It does depend on who/the team, though. They sometimes split the away end into away and neutral. Obviously if someone knows you're an away fan, which is normally seen vs Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea etc with loads of people standing around the bottom stairs taking photos, and you're quiet, they wont really care.

The european teams that have visited, no-one has really cared, and generally get into conversations. But it's those who jump up when the other team score, just asking for trouble really. Although Fulham aren't too bad, like i said if you celebrate/wear the colours, they'll kick you out.

I wouldn't think you'd get to the lowest membership levels or general sale for Fulham vs Liverpool though, again big teams everyone wants to go and season ticket members all know people who want to come for one game, or know people who know people who want to go, etc, etc.

I've been to one Fulham vs Arsenal game in the home stand, with my Arsenal shirt on..... covered up by a nice big jumper. A family friend who has a season ticket got me the ticket though, no chance getting one on my own.

But then thats always an option, see if someone on here might get you a ticket for a bigger game, though chances are anyone on here with a season ticket at a London club, or liverpool will have loads of friends who want to get a ticket for the big games, worth a shot though.

I got the Chelsea match on Red Membership, bear in mind every Premiership game has a guaranteed minimum of 1500 tickets that will go on sale to Red members. Obviously it is harder to get the big matches as no tickets will have bypassed the higher level of membership and demand is higher, so basically it's a free-for-all for those 1500 tickets the moment they go on sale.

Obviously the game scheduling has an effect too, some games are on TV and as such may at at less favourable times like 4pm Sunday which can dissuade some people from going due to crappy trains etc, obviously midweek is tougher due to people working etc. Personally I only ever go to 3pm Saturday kickoffs, with occasional exceptions like a really big match (Chelsea), CL game vs Villereal, or when I won cup tickets in a competition.

Liverpool only have one London fixture left this season againast Arsenal and according to their site if you haven't been to atleast 5 games already you can't buy a ticket. Personally I'd try for Hull, Burnley or Birmingham in the home end, or there is always Unirea at home surely that won't sell out
