I cannot understand why microsoft did not have HDMI on the xbox 360 to start with ?
HDMI did not have a set standard till the 360 launched. That's why. So don't :mad: at them when it's something they couldn't of controlled. Unless you wanted to wait a year.

Just shows you Sony are thinking , microsoft are not ,

Actually i agree with you there, evemn though i'm a 360 owner :) :)

sony arent thinking, their games console cant handle xbox 360 graphics, the frame rate sucks hard.

MS have totally trumped sony

I only run it on 720p via component as thats all my tv can handle. Well it can handle 1080i but it doesnt flow as good. It can output at 1080p via VGA and HDMI I believe. If someone could just clear up what max res the different cables can handle that would be great :)

I just looked up the cable i am using Official XBox 360 Component HD AV Cable
it says " High-definition gaming output of 720p or 1080i "

360 does 1080p over component/vga/hdmi. Depends on what your tv takes from which input aswell though, a lot of tv's wont accept 1080p over component. Also, you cannot play HD-DVD's at 1080p over component due to some funky HDCP ruling.

We will begin to introduce models with HDMI ports in Europe in the next few months.

Looks like I will be buying the Elite model I don't want to wait a few months. :(

Someone did post a link here a month or so ago pointing to such a cable. The problem was it was around $100 odd iirc.

So will this be a mod on the Premiums or will you have to buy a new machine ?
Why do you have to buy a new machine? You don't need HDMI and I doubt many people can see the difference anyway.

Originalyl it did not do 1080p, it can now via downloaded updates.

Just to clear this up:-

VGA and HDMI:

* HD DVD - 1080p resolution and all others
* DVD - Upscaled as high as 1080p resolution and all others
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games

Component:

* HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
* DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
* Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games
