Preparing for University!

Without doubt, the thing which will make you the most friends and a very popular person is what you reveal you have in your room perhaps two weeks into university.....

Lame ^^

I always went by the philosphy, dont get upset when people use your stuff, because 95% of the time, you will need something from them too.
There were 4 other people in my flat and, whilst I got on really well with 2 of them one of the others was really weird and the other nobody really talked to. In my flat (and halls generally tbh) everyone had their own stuff so there was no reason to use anyone else's. If anyone needed to borrow something though they'd ask and of cause I'd let them - in that circumstance having it locked up makes no difference.

In halls, as far as I'm concerned, there are two things that shouldn't be out for anyone to use - cutlery and bathroom stuff - because students are students and thus it'll just get scummy very very quickly. That's why I strongly encourage anyone moving into halls to move into en suite halls - some of the halls where they were sharing bathrooms I think I'd prefer to have not washed for a year.

Aside from the fact I didn't get the choice of en-suite I don't think I would have wanted it anyway - I would totally have missed out on the fun of the early morning dance to the tune of "will they leave the bathroom so I can go pee?". :D

I do take the point about people not seeming to wash but you could always do what another flat did and lock the offending person in the bathroom until they showered. Might be crude but it worked, they were a lot cleaner after that.

Christ! The only thing you need to remember to do is get wrecked, make friends, have fun and hand work in on time.

Be sociable and friendly. Don't be that arse who complains about everything whilst adding nothing (you will meet quite a few).

That list is waaaaaay to thorough for my liking.

Stationary of some kind obviously...

none of those things. food, clothes, pc with music on, stereo/amp and speakers, some dvds, digital camera

money (as much as you can get but the job should hopefully be enough with the loan your getting)

A funnel? A hoover tube is where it is at. Nothing gets drinks down like pouring them in from two flights up 'cos mavity sorts out the rest. ;) Very bad idea overall but entertaining if you are watching. :)
