Prepping a door for varnish

Hi guys

Wonder if you can recommend some advise on what will get this gunk off the door so that I can sand it down for varnishing? The door used to be covered in white gloss and I used a heat gun to remove the paint. I have been left behind by this brown residue and don't know if it is part of the old paint or is an old varnish from before painting.

A friend recommended Evo Stick Adhesive remover; sound about right?

If it's a thin coating of whatever that's still left, Nitromors should work.

Probably varnish, it would have been easier to get the door dipped in the first place, nitromors isn't any where nearly as effective as it once was, but screwfix no nonsense paint stripper is very good if you apply it very thick and leave it for a good 20mins.
