present for a 3 year old?

Get him a Spiderman 1 DVD (£5) and a Spiderman action figure (£5). I got that for my three-year old godson and all he does is play with Spiderman and watch Spiderman. I also got him a Spiderman outfit (£15). It can be a little disconcerting when he runs up, headbutts you in the goolies, shouts "Biderman got you!" and then runs off, but it's all cool really.

Another alternative is a load of those musical cartoon movies on DVD, like Madagascar (big kids' favourite - and mine too ;)), the Lion King, that sort of thing (£5 each, maybe some kind of buy one get one free somewhere!). They sit and watch 'em for hours, repeatedly. Hakuna matata!

The Early Learning Centre do a Brio train look-a-like and it's a great present. It also solves the problem of future pressies as people can just add stuff to it. Our sons have enjoyed many years of play with their Brio sets, from the same age.

The real Brio is quite expensive, although it lasts forever and there is a fantastic new concept from them with computer parts running on the track instead of trains. One of the characters is called Emo. :)

if he's anything like my littlest one, get something with a sturdy box as that will get more play than the contents :D

I reckon I would make my millions selling kid proof boxes....

I bought a Jack Sparrow dressing up kit for a kid that age a few weeks ago. Seem to go down well, although he is a bit lethal with the sword  Came with tattoos and all sorts. Plus it wont take up as much room as a bulky toy and the parents are probably sick of stuff cluttering up the place.

nah, i think that at 3 they want something to satisfy their 'instictive drives' and make them feel special. it doesn't matter what it is, as long as it makes them feel important when it's given. so big/colourful/shiny etc is good.

so a box coverd in metalic xmas wrapping paper then... ;)

I going to get my 3 year old half brother some train stuff. All my little brothers (1, 3 and 5 years old) love them, can never have enough of them. Seem to remember it was the same with me when I was little except it was cars and not trains :)
