I have a very good friend for whom I wish to buy a thank you present.

They already have a good writing pen and such, but I wanted to buy something to do with being an author. She has written several plays, and a couple of books. All I could really think of was a nice pen, but as I say thats pretty useless.

How about a quill or something?

Equally useless I suppose. Does everything need to be useful?

If it were me it would be, but you're right. I don't suppose it has to be.

A quill is a nice idea.

Don't buy her something because she's an author - what about her hobbies?
I want to buy something to support her..authoring though, as that is where she has helped me a lot.

And anyway, other then rowing, writing is what she lives for.

You could go and get some nice paper headed with her name as well as a quill / pen?

I always say I'd prefer it if I could use it, wear it or eat it. I'm not sure how much use she would get out of a quill tbh. Would probably end up on a shelf collecting dust for a few years before going in the charity shop box...

Something that says "I took my time searching", "I'm not a miser" and "enjoy it, its only temporary so won't sit around for ever". A posh bottle of something fits all three for me :D

Headed paper is good, but not quite what I'm after.

Hard to explain really, just want something different, but writing related :p. All good suggestions though, please keep them coming.

literary jewellry?
there are some gorgeous engraved bracelets / pendants out there - with everything from Austin to Shakespeare.
alternatively why not get a 'quote' of hers engraved on a bracelet, or even a hip flask!
