Present from my cat.

we had a female cat who bought in next door neighbours guinea pig. the silly mare had left it on her front garden. we put a collar on her the next day but she pulled it off.

i remember me and my dad pulled up a fern bush in my folks back garden and found about a dozen bird carcasses under it. she was an awesome cat :D

My cat once caught a Rabbit. I was impressed.

Our cat did that recently, didn't have time to pick up the half eaten carcass outside his cat flap before going out, by the time we got back there was just a head, bones and feet left.

He frequently brings back mice and birds. Brought in a live bird a month or so ago, let it go and I had to spend an hour trying to get it out after it flew under the built in fridge.

I wouldn't put a collar on a cat, they're far more likely to get stuck when they're out prowling.

They can also really hurt themselves if they get their rear leg stuck in the collar. Since they struggle to get out and panic

How else would you attach an identification tag, which you are legally required to do? Staple it on :p?

I don't think your LEGALLY required to tag your cat...where did you get that info from?

My cat hasn't got a ID tag cause she wont wear a collar, she is micro-chipped though cause the RSPCA wont re-home a cat with out a chip

Just buy a breakaway collar - which almost all are these days. If the cat gets caught the clip just releases, however it's strong enough to stop them just casually scratching it off. But yes, the traditional buckle type should be avoided for the reasons you mentioned. Outdoor cats should always have a collar on though!

My cats are indoor, but one of them likes to go out occasionally for a "supervised" hunt. Last year he caught a young rabbit and then proudly went trotting through our condo building's summer picnic with it dangling out of his mouth :D The rabbit survived as he just had it by the scruff of the neck. He's also caught mice and chipmunks.....which weren't so lucky.

If you're putting a collar onto a cat & it's losing it, then it's too slack.

If you put it on correctly a cat can slip out of it's collar if stuck, but not strangle itself.

General rule of thumb, if you can fit 2 of your fingers between the cats neck/fur & the collar then it's ok unless you have fingers like The Hulk :D

I feel let down.

My kitten just brought me a present.

It was a leaf. She was very excited, I feel somewhat disappointed reading this thread.

:D

I took the bird into the back garden an hour back when our cat had fallen asleep. It flew off a few seconds after I let it out so I'm guessing the cat hadn't caught it for long.

Hopefully it won't find itself near my cat again.

From the rescue home we got him from.

The amount of birds etc i would have thrown in the bin that the cat brought home until the GF wanted to 'look after it' astonishes me.

My little female cat caught a pheasant in the bag garden and was struggling to drag it into the kitchen kicking and squawking until we released it sharply. Much bigger male brother cat got jealous so "caught" a two week old dead and decaying frog for us. Hw was very proud.

We have two cats, the one that gets the birds now is only around a year old. However the other is coming up 18. He's deaf now and but we still get the odd mouse and bird on Christmas morning.

Owww! A leaf :D you will have to keep it as its Lola's first gift to her mummy - at least it wont decay and get flies lol

Yep, it's the best thing to do.

Although, I had a spot of had luck once.

I kept the birdy in over night, in the morning he was fine so I took him outside to see if he was ready to go and he hopped on to the garden chair and was having a look around. Out of nowhere the neighbours cat tackled birdy and ran off, couldn't catch him and I was like:
