Yorkshire and proud of it!
No, it's not about how to type unicode characters. I came across this yesterday. Not sure if it's been covered in another thread but wondered what GD's thoughts on it are:

http://metro.co.uk/2017/01/04/dont-let-politicians-destroy-press-freedom-act-now-6359335/

No, I don't normally read the Metro but if this is as bad as they make out I'm surprised I'm not seeing more coverage of it elsewhere.

Forcing papers to pay costs of those who sue them unsuccessfully if they refuse to join the governments 'voluntary' regulation scheme - privately backed apparently - seems very, very dubious to me. I'm not sure about the Leveson II part of the petition / consultation. As far as I'm concerned papers hacking people's phones to satisfy the public's prurience is not remotely acceptable but I also don't want to see unfair restrictions on the press that could be abused for more important matters.

Anyone know anything about this? Apparently the closing date for feedback is tomorrow.

Don't see the problem really. The press has to give up self-regulation, it has never worked and never will do. Remember all that hacking and bribing policemen the press did? Well these are the consequences.

The press made it all but impossible to have a good solution, so a bad solution was pretty much inevitable. Until Murdoch er, pursuades, the government to step on this idea anyway.

Oh... Thwax Mosley is involved.

Yeah... Not in favour. It's a way that lawyers can get more money. Oh you're suing a newspaper... I'll triple my rates, it's win win. You lose, they pay me. You win, they pay me.

No.
