download the linux iso then use http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ or http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ to make the usb bootable drive.

I find rufus the best for writing iso files to USB. I've written hundreds to USB and never had an issue using it. Quicker than other tools I've tried in the past too.

Just installed Mint 15 and had a play about with it.
First time I've used a Linux distro and it's great.

Just installed Mint on the Mrs parents old laptop (Acer Travelmate 6050 or something) anyway, worked off the bat.

At least I won't be seeing this laptop back full of virus's and malware because her silly sisters just click yes to everything!
Instead I'll just be getting silly questions asked.

after trying about 10 different distros i have finally settled on ubuntu 13.10 with the cairo dock installed

for me its been the most stable out of all the distros i have tried

can put a screenshot up later of my setup if anyone is interested?
