Pretty shocking

Isn't that turn of phrase bannable now, or did I imagine that?

I certainly thought it was, but for observation in GD mostly - it doesn't seem to be very well enforced.

Surely a search for the word "pasty" and a ban for a minimum of 10 years for anyone using it in the phrase ;)

I hold my car on hills like that a lot, if longer than a 10 or 20 secs I'll go to handbrake though. I can't say I've ever had it anywhere near a burning smell though... how steep was this hill!

I always get the biting point and use the revs, never really thought it would do that much damage.

I also never get burning clutch smell and I have been doing it for ages.

I was taught to use the clutch to hold the car on my lessons, never did though. I lol'd hard when the instructor told me the clutch had been replaced 4 times (100k miles) :p

Why? You're just wearing out the clutch for no reason. Use the brake, that's what it's designed for.
Pet hate of mine, and I find it really annoying waiting at some lights on a hill or something and the car next to me is rolling back and forward constantly. Put the brake on and take your foot off the god damn clutch!
