Hi,

Had my PNY 8800GT For a year until it broke a few days ago... Got £150 to spend and have been looking at the XFX 9800GTX (Exactly 150 quid)... Any better alternatives (I don't like using ATI...) for the same money or less?

Have a 550W Power Supply (Not buying another one...)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1Ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-SHA MoBo
2046MB of RAM (Might get another 2 gig)
WinXP SP3.

Many Thanks.

Hearing a lot of bad things about the 260... Lots of faults/heating issues etc.

Oh and I meant the 9800GTX+ not the GTX.

The gtx260 is a far superior card to the 9800gtx+. As far as i am aware all cards have there problems and the gtx260 is just like any card. With a budget of £150 the gtx260 is really the only card for you as you don't want an ati card which would have been the 4870 1gb.

+1

Would be madness going for any sort of 9800 for that price. Get the 260.

I don't think the 260's are any more prone to break than any other card. If your worried just get a BFG version as they have a good rma service with a 10 year warranty. They also have an rma depot in the UK.

Don't go for a 9800gtx+ for £150, would be madness as the 260 is probably pushing at 50% faster.

What specs show that it is 50% faster?
On paper (purely number crunching ability) it is 'technically' around 50% faster but depending on what games you play this can actually range from 10% all the way to around 35%.

As stated above - you'd be mad to throw £150 at a 9800GTX+ when you can get a better card for the same money.

Any card can fail - regardless of whether it's a 260, 9800, or 4870.

A 9800GTX+ would be a waste of cash at £150. It's not much faster than what you've got.

+1 for the 260, I have one and it rocks.

Wow... Just got my gtx 260... Came with far cry 2.. Can run everything maxed and still get about 60 fps.. **** Yeah this card rocks.
