Prey Issue

Hi there, have just bought Prey as was going cheap and have seen some nice screens of it so thought i would give it a go.

Unfortunately after the install the game either locks on a black screen whilst loading to the main menu or after a very long wait on the black screen when i try to create a new game it comes up with an error and says it has to close.

Has anyone else had this problem or is there any way to rectify the problem.

PS I have tried reinstalling it once and am running Win XP Home

can you give some details as to what the error actually says, please?
have you patched it up to 1.3?

Had same problem on mine. Unfortunately couldn't fix it but it worked O.K on another P.C, think you have to put it down to bad luck that sometimes P.c s just don't work for no particular reason.

Check your firewall settings.

Had a similar problem when I tried to run the game, it would just stop at the Prey loading screen, turned out to be the firewall blocking it. Once I gave it permission it ran fine.

The error that comes up is the generic windows error message, saying that the program will have to be closed.

I havent patched it at all, so will give that a quick go to see if that rectifies things.

Just a quick update, have just patched the game to 1.3 and started it up.

After a very very long time (about 5 mins) the game eventually loaded and i saw a small flicker of Zonealarm pop up.

Knowing this i put the game in windowed mode,restarted the game and set Zonealarm to allow the program access the program. After startup, i created a new game and it loaded fine.
