Released today at CES

I have been keeping quiet about this for a good while now.

Some real unique selling points in this product that I feel gives the Apex M800 some real differentiation from its competition.

QS1 switches are a 45g linear switch with a 3mm travel and 1.5mm actuation. This should in theory be bliss to type on as well as being brilliant for gaming.

The keycaps are really low profile due to the switch design and the LED lighting is embedded in the middle of the switch so that the backlight is even and uniform across the keycap.

SteelSeries have confirmed that we can get one for trials as soon as it is available so I will do a full review the moment I can get my hands on one.

SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard @ £159.95 inc VAT

KB-066-ST_400.jpg

M800 offers a brand new switch:
We partnered with experts in switch technology to create the perfect switch for the M800. The result is the incredible QS1 switch. With a smooth linear action and 25% faster actuation than the traditional mechanical switch, the QS1 is built for pure speed (see comparison).

QS1 switches have a 3mm throw depth, a 1.5mm actuation and only require a 45cN actuation force. All of the design choices in the QS1 switch specifications were made with two goals in mind: React faster and spend less wasted effort as you destroy your competition!

QS1 Switches are Low Profile:
The keyboard is built at a low angle and with an optimally designed linear key layout that cuts down on finger travel distance. This allows for seamless, quick transitions between keys and across the keyboard for less fatigue on your fingers no matter how furiously they fly.

Dual Processors Guarantees Performance:
Your 600 APM would go to waste if the brains of the keyboard couldn't keep up. That's why we added an additional CPU inside the M800 that is dedicated only to processing key presses. No lag, no excuses. And when the gaming gets hectic, N-key rollover allows up to 256 key presses at once with zero issues.

Lighting Patterns
We built in some incredible pre-configured lighting options, like Breathe, Wave and Trigger that highlight the keyboard's vibrant and crisp illumination. Further personalize Apex M800 by creating, programing and sharing your own illumination designs.

They aren't the same. The Logitech sadly have some horrid keycaps on that can't be changed as there aren't aftermarket alternatives.

There are no toys and there is no pram.

asking one of the most heavily funded peripheral specialists on the planet to conduct business in a similar manner to tiny peripheral companies with zero budgets, staff and funding isn't much to ask.

I was looking at it and thinking, that's a really nice looking keyboard with some funky features... And then I saw the price! £160 for a flipping Keyboard??? Really? I do understand its ultra high quality but it should be for 10 x that of a reasonable keyboard that would suit most people.

its a mechanical board. and their flagship product in this area.

they will be offering cut down versions soon after too :)

Slim keys are making a come back!?

If my MK-85 broke and I needed to buy a keyboard tomorrow, it would be this Steelseries board.

indeed. slim keys are possible here because of the way the QS1 switch works.

As soon as I can, there will be a review of the board on here.

Is that firm pricing from your supplier RJK, or is it likely to change in the coming weeks? Does certainly look interesting!

We are fighting for a release period exclusivity in the UK currently. Just trying to get everything confirmed.

As part of the deal we will have to stay at the msrp.

Hi guys

I am currently typing this post on an Apex mech.

First impressions, very impressive. the switches are very strange to type on coming from a cherry mx board.

I will be using it for the rest of the day and do a proper review.

It is then being sent away to media so that they can do a review as well.

eta, hopefully in a few weeks. the price we have will not be changing as we were quoted that before the dollar rate decided to go mental

we are holding the price for as long as we can but I obviously dont know if it will get worse or better in future, depends on the USD really

Where is the TKL version?!

hold your horses.

the TKL is due after.

they are launching the apex mech m800 first as it is the flagship product in their range.

then they will be launching the rest of the range

there is a TKL version coming which I would be interested in myself because the M800 is quite big [but in fairness i do use a ducky mini at home so pretty much every keyboard is massive in comparison]

I know lol. its a real PITA at the moment as it has been delayed about 6 times on me. I'm hesitant to give you lot updates at this rate with it being so commonplace to be delayed.
