Price of Games Inflating (T3 article linked), Whats your limit?

PC Games is my main experience here, but I don't actually think it's a huge problem. We've been paying roughly the same prices for PC games, that is to say, £30, for as long as I can remember. At least 10 years. This means, I suppose, that the publishers have eaten the costs of inflation during this time.

As for consoles, I still remember paying £45 for Tekken3 back in the day, and now I doubt I'd pay more than £35 for an xbox title. Games are really cheap if one gets in on the deals or pre-orders from cheap companies online, so I'm not seeing this as much of a threat.

£30 max for PC games, can usually find most for £25 these days though. If I had a console I don't think I'd ever buy a game new, just rent them via a decent online service.

i remember buying one of the resident evil games for the playstation and it was 55quid in woolworths that would have been the late 90's?

I haven't bought a game on release for years now, don't see the point really. Wait a few months and they're half the price and patched, win win as far as I am concerned.

There should be a rule that states all games (console or PC based) should not be higher than £30 for PC and £40 for console...

The most expensive game I bought (and I cannot believe I am about to admit this!) was Need For Speed: Pro Street and that was £35 from HMV.

I tend to get my games from elsewhere to 'try them out' first. Then if and when I think I want to get further with then I buy it. I didn't start playing CoD4 multiplayer until earlier this year and I been playing the single player since it was released.

I am still deciding on whether or not I should buy MW 2 on its release but we'll see...strange thing is...online it's priced at £34.99 and the RRP is showing £39.99. Go figure!!

Obviously I dont know any of you and how strong you will be, but its easy to say you will wait for it to drop, however anyone who games online with friends will surely have a hard time if they are playing and you're not...

I rarely pay more than £25 for a game - that's a brand new top title that I have confidence in that will be to my liking. So if Valve or i.d.software release something then I don't usually hesitate.

Street Fighter 2 on the Snes was the most expensive game I ever bought. I remember seeing Neogeo games advertised iin a magazine for £150!!

Now days £30 is the most i'd like to pay for a game, poss £35 for a really good one.

For the major titles getting in on the hype, playing launch day multiplayer, etc is more fun than the actual game itself for me sometimes.

Must admit it is an interesting move by Activision to price COD: MW2 higher than normal PC releases, especially in the current recession.

Will be looking carefully at the reviews of this, because if its still based on the same Quake-3-modified engine then it's hardly new tech, but at least it'll work on almost any machine.

Activision never fails to deliver an awesome COD game though, so I suppose we cant really complain. Only problem with COD4 was its SP was so playable that you just kept going up until the plane mission at the end :p

Replayed the original COD recently, along with United Offensive - id slightly forgotten how awesome they are, as well as how long compared with some modern FPS's!

Most games, no, I think it's too much and I wouldn't buy it, I'd wait for pre owned.

But when I think of the amount of enjoyment and value for money I've got out of COD 4 (I still play it now), I'd gladly pay £55 (or more as you inevitably end up doing with map pack add ons). Although like others have said I'm sure I will get it cheaper than this pre order.

Actually pure multiplayer titles are possibly the only ones I'll pay top dollar for on the day of release.

I got Left 4 Dead for 15 quid I think, but by the time I did everyone knew the maps backwards and I got shouted at a lot :(

its a unique case really. sequel to the most popular game of last year therefore they are trying to cash in on the name.

the strategy will work if the game is as good as the last one. if not then the poor reviews from the people willing to pay top dollar will no doubt put off anyone who was waiting for the knock-down price. something that a game like Far Cry 2 probably suffered from.

£30 is tops for me and thats for a guaranteed great title.

I have a PS3 that i mainly use for watchign DVD's and blu rays. The only games i have on it are Guitar hero series inc world tour and GTA4.

The games i have to have but cant get on a PC i get for my PS3, i would love to play Halo 3 etc but cant justify the cost of a console for one game.

The next game i get for my PS3 will be DJ Hero and only because i cant get it on PC + i find these a great party style game you can play with mates etc.

I find £50 ish for a game daft but with the gimick games you get fancy controller etc. I have a family member who lives in New York and it jsut so happed GTA 4 came out when i was in New York and the PS3 i have isnt region locked so i bought the special edition tin version for $65 which was just over £30 march 2008.
