Prime 95 test

So i am trying to test an overclock using prime 95 but always get terrified that the temperatures (according to Core Temp) are running way too hot whilst the test is being carried out.. around the 80 - 90% mark at 100% load on all four cores so i always stop it after a couple of minutes.
Would it be safe to run the Prime 95 test for longer, say at least a couple of hours bearing in mind the details above..?

Well if you've got adequate cooling for your overclock then you shouldn't worry.
Do you mean 80-90c on 100% load?
That does seem quite high. What's the CPU?

Yes 80-90c on 100% load
It's an i7 920 2.67 (stock) cooler is: Scythe Katana 2 Heatpipe Quiet

if so i dont think your heatsink is on properly.

NO,

It's with the following overclock: 3.27GHz
Clock Ratio 21x
BCLK 156x21
Vcore 1.26875v

Things don't appear to be that stable though, normal use is fine temp wise etc but 2 things i tried: Witcher 2 & Dolphin emulator (both running at 1920x1200 with high/top detail AA enabled etc) resulted in a system crash after a couple of minutes.

well first of all your volts seem far to high for 3.27 so get them down

if that doesnt help either you have a poor heatsink or its not fitted properly.

** just noticed i have replied to you in the other thread you made. have you read the guide ive posted on there for you?

my old 920 never went above 75 at 3.8gig

Thanks for your reply (in both threads) i did look at the link you supplied for the i7 but a lot of the quoted settings don't correspond with the ones in my intelligent tweaker.. could you suggest what i should be setting the Vcore as.

what motherboard have you got?

are you overclocking in the bios or software via windows?

its recommended you overclock in the bios. if your not familiar with it then no wonder it doesnt correspond.

my advice would be to spend a little time in the bios sussing everything out before you start putting unnecessary volts through your cpu cos your inexperienced.

like ive said you should be able to hit 3.8 gig no sweat with around 1.2v
