Righty,

Got myself a Dual Core and want to test it before I go an overclock to make sure it is ok.

How do I run 2 instances of Prime95? I got 1 open and just hit torture test. Will this automatically run it on both cores?

No, you need to install Prime twice to two seperate folders, and call them different names for the start bar. I found you couldn't do this with the latest version, so you might need to get a slightly older version.

Failing that, just use S&M gets the CPU a good few degrees hotter in my experience.

Jokester

Edit:- And it supports dual cores

Thanks for the recomendation jokester. that little prggy works real well. stressing it as i type on both cores :).

currently 36c load temps at stock so plenty headroom for some overclocking. Only running the fan at 1900rpm aswell :).

I found it gives pretty much the same max stable overclock. Certainly S&M gets it to peak temperature within minutes and seems to keep it a good few degrees higher than Prime ever gets to.

Jokester

Its only an X2 3800+ Jokester. Sitting comfortably at 220HTT now without any fuss or vcore bump. Will try for more over the weekend. Pretty sure 260HTT is reachable.

Its a 0601 VPMW stepping btw.

King.

Got to say I thought S&M was great untill just now I just did the 100% load test on my new 165 it got it nice and hot but the CPU passed. I Tried running SP2004 (prime95 code) and core 0 failed instantly I have upped the volts and its ok now but it surprised me that S&M missed it

I did the S&M RAM test too, Uping the vcore seemed to fix the problem so it couldnt be the ram could it?

Well I cant install it twice .. but copied the folder and renamed it and the exe, and have 2 icons in my tray ... cant test as I dont have dual core atm .. but now prepared (possibly ;))

*note ... just noticed it has an option to set affinity so should be good to go :)
