Hello all,

I want to gain Prince2 foundation certification, and I want to self study.

Have you done this approach for Prince2? I am looking for the correct materials but there seems to be a huge amount of resources (I just want a single book I can work through), and I don't know what's good or bad.

thanks in advance.

PRINCE2 For Dummies

I did the self-study myself. Be warned, it's really boring.

There are a lot of revision e-books floating around in .pdf online that will be good for revising the themes/principles/processes.

I can handle boring having done ITIL and a number of boring modules at University.

Thanks for the link, did you use that book supplemented with other online materials to pass the test? How long did it take you all in?

Thanks

I did an online course I paid for first (fell asleep during it about seven times) which gave me a rough grounding although was in hindsight massive overkill for the Foundation (it just dumps things from the P2 Manual at you).

I then read through some of that book, but found the e-books I mentioned and found those of more use.

I think I gave myself a couple of months in total to do it.

I thought Prince2 had largely been discredited as a project management methodology?

My old employer (Hewlett Packard) certainly didn't hold any stock in it before I retired last July. I suppose it's still popular due to the Government blindly following it in it's departments.

Haha, I'm in a similar boat. Work are wanting me to get to ITIL Expert over the next few years, and also Prince Practitioner.

Really not sure I can face it..

Foundation is easy, practioner is harder but anybody should be able to ass foundation. All in all though it is possibly the most boring subject known to man!

I was sent on a 2 day course to learn foundation, 1.5 days learning, then the exam. Dull as hell and it could have been done in half a day easily but they're essentially teaching to the people on the 5 day practitioner course who need to pass foundation on day 2 of 5.

Very boring, haven't genuinely found it added anything to my projects although at least now I can understand the work of the project managers who stick to it like glue.

4 out of the 20 on my course failed foundation incidentally, it's easy IF you remember that you answer it how you think they want you to answer, not always the most common sense answer. The wording of some of the questions reminded me of MS exams where they're trying to trip you up.

I'd suggest doing the Practitioner as well while the material is still fresh in your mind. Easier than Foundation in some ways, as it is open book.

Agreed, I did both in 1 week on a 5 day course, doubt I could have self studied it.
