This maybe in the wrong section, so move if it is, I just couldn't find any others that were relevant. :)

Where's the cheapest place to get printer cartridges from? Is it worth getting them refilled or does that depend on what type of cartridge it is?

Thanks :)

I've given up buying re-fills or 3rd party cartridges these days. Genuine's are better.

End up just googling the code and finding the cheapest website, or get dad to buy loads in Frys/CompUSA/Best Buy when he's in the states.

So third party ones are not really worth it? I take it the genuine ones last longer?

No apostrophe.

For home users; get third party / refills. They are perfectly good and have never ever ever ever ever caused any problems for anyone that I know of.

For companies that make money from prints; use official stuff.

Prices vary depending on the cartridge and ease of refill.
Some printers also accept 'continuous ink' which rid you of the cartridges completely. :)

I've started filling mine up, only £7 for a colour down at the small printing business, and £4 for black and white - much better than £30 or so for both!

I rang a well known printer cartridge company and they told me it would be £10 to refill a black ink cartridge, that was only £11 new.

Seems pointless...

Because I suppose they're using infinitely better ink & materials to make them?

I bet companies are trying to make the biggest markup on products and so use the cheapest ink they can get away with.

I guess YMMV, some "unofficial" cartridges may be utter trash, but others, including refills may be great.

However I'm probably wrong

Have you tried local places? They tend to be much cheaper.

Been running a 'continuous ink system' for years now as my old Epson 950 takes 7 cartridges costing megga money. Never had any problems with quality and I don't mind cleaning the heads regularly and using ink; the Epson originals are about £11 average so £77 for a complete change ..... CSS cost me £59 inc inks and I've been running it for a long time without replacing/filling the reservoirs. No Brainer for me.

Official are just the way for printer makers to make the real money since printers are offered cheap.

Cheap 2.99 ones are ok and nowt wrong with em.

Genuines are better and don't wreck your printer, I have lost count of the amount of ruined printers I have seen due to refilled cartridges

you could just do away with ink printers and get laser.. then you wont have to worry about using it regularly to keep the jets/nozzles clear.

Inkjet printers really grind my gears - only advantage of an inkjet print is the ability to print of better quality papers, ie photographic/glossy/etc

otherwise its toner for me everytime.

That's probably because they need to be used once a couple of days to keep the ink flowing properly.

Depends on the printer i guess.

I see a lot of epsons where people have used crappy cheap cartridges (not even a good compatable) and have ruined their print head from it. a lot of compatables seem to block the print heads too on epsons.

Jettec cartridges work pretty good for Hp's and lexmarks from what ive found.
