Got a printer problem on a vista machine,it did work previously now it opens printer queue box and puts job there ,then it times out with a print fault.
Printer and cable work fine on another machine,tried a different cable ,a vista repair and uninstalling printer and re installing via vista.
the printer is HP PSC 750
Is there anything else to try before doing a format

thanks
Dave

Also try Windows update. It's pot luck with older printer drivers in Vista, unfortunately - sometimes the Windows update drivers are magic, other times they're worse than useless.

Sounds like a problem with the print spooler service. Try restarting it by opening an elevated command prompt and typing the following ;

net stop spooler
net start spooler

Then restart your system and try printing again.

It can happen when jobs are stuck in the spooler folder, go to
c:\windows\system32\spool\printers then delete any files with extension *.shd and *.spl

Restarting the spooler will kill any pending jobs jimmy321 ;) Not being a d*ck here, but I work for Hewlett Packard Tech support. The other problem is flakey drivers causing the spooler to crash. Straight forward fix for a printer, but notice 'PSC' - Printer, Scanner, Copier. This means he is trying to install a suite of software to handle scanning as well. I would try and install a basic printer driver and see what happens. Hp all in one software has always been flakey at best. Shouldn't be telling any of you this ;)

the only drivers in when it was working were the ones vista put in for it and worked ,
havent tried any drivers as i thought it was old hardware and wouldnt have any new drivers ,but if there is any a pointer would be great too
thanks
