Hi all, I've recently got myself a Canon 400D with a few other bits and bobs and want to be able to print out photos myself, excellent quality ones at that without having to buy from Photobox all the time.

I currently have a HP Deskjet 940c which is now a bit of an old hat and can't produce a photo of a high enough quality.

Which printer/s can you recommend to me for maximum quality, A3 would be an advantage and preferably Canon but I will consider everything, thanks.

Depending how much you want to spend...

A4: Canon iP 5200R, Epson R800 (more expensive)

A3+: Cannon iX5000 (great value), Canon Pro9000/HP B9180 (about the same price as each other, but get the HP if you want pigmant inks).

Pitiy there is no roll paper printers in the A3 Low end price range anymore.

If you got a lot of money to spend: Canon IPF5000 (what I would get if I have money to burn).

epsons suck! either get a hp or a canon far better in every way.

damnit! thats why my prints are always messed up, do you know if i can set mine to blow instead? :)

any of the top brand printers will give you decent prints, the epson i use (i forget the model) is 2 years old but does a great job, and it didnt cost a lot either , it wont give pro results but its not half bad

for big prints or batchs i use photobox as it works out a lot cheaper and the quality is better, and it saves me having to do all the work :)

Well as per usual guys you deliver on the goods. So far I have to say the Canon Pro 9000 is looking like the one to go for, anyone own one of these at all?

ive read a few reviews of the ip9000 and it sounds like a great printer, i`m sure it wont dissapoint , the ip9500 sounds even better but i dont think its available till jan/feb

Agreed the 9500 does look an excellent printer although 1, it is not out yet and 2, it uses the pigment inks which tend to be a bit pricy.

The 9000 seems to fit the bill with inks being about £7 each :D

But more reviews to read I feel...so off I go ;)

When you are looking at the cost of ink tanks, you must also remember that different printers use different amounts of ink for the same print, BUT more importantly, look at the CAPACITY of the ink cartridges. Ink tanks for the larger printers, might be expensive, but they (talking about stuff like the Epson 4800 here) hold 3-4 times the amount of ink. So the prices of a single ink tank can be missleading.
