Private plates?

I'd really like one, but cannot find one that I'm willing to pay for (considering the car it'll end up going on won't be worth much more than the plate :D).

I was excited about the prospect of buying "JS11MPS" when it is released later this year as it as close my ideal plate (JS1MP) as I'm likely to get, but I only recently did some research only to find you can only put a dated registration plate on a car as young or younger than the plate. Gutted :(

I like my personal plate, got it for my 21st from my parents.
Mine is the year i was born, followed by my birthdate and then my initals.

I think they're pointless in the UK. Far too limited for the cost and you can't even 'personalise' them as such, you just get to pick from a list and half the time because of the letter/number compromise they look crap.

System should be like the States where it only costs about $100 to personalise it for the year and you can have pretty much anything you like as long as no one has already registered it and it's not blacklisted as rude/offensive. Best part is that even if someone else in another state has it you can usually still register it as long as no one in your state has it.

In the end you get a lot more personalised ones on the road so you see a lot more funny/interesting plates and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Yeah, I'd much prefer the system they've got in the states, but it'll never happened. Private plates have become an "Industry".

Private plates in this country are more about exclusivity. When I see a plate that says something like 'X H0T B4B3 X' or something to that theme with illegal spacing I just think chavvy. When I see a car with something like 'R1', '1GB' or '66UK' etc I think cool, exclusive, expensive.

I always said I'd never get a "vanity" plate, but I kept finding myself on the DVLA website staring at them...

Anyway, I capitulated and went for "R5 ABC".

RABC are my initials, and R5 was my favourite of the single numbers left.

Going to put it on my bike

Managed to get a letter and a single number (my lucky number) along with my initials when the 'F' plates came out.

Will be buying another when the '11' plates come out later this year.
