Advice needed. I have a i7 920 that i want to overclock to 4ghz. I have purchashed the Megahalam cooler and a new fractual design case. I have bought no new fans except for the two supplied with the case.

so spec me best fans to buy for:
cpu cooler (megahalems)
case (fratual designs r2)
fan controller so i cant turn up the speed during heavy gaming sessions. im very confused about pwm and 3 pin.

Quiet and superior cooling needed. appriciate anyones help. sorry for bad typing, but using stylus on win mobile to type this post. thanks all.

its important to suggest a good cpu fan controller also.
would like to install at the front of the case. also match the black colured case. cheers!

I've got/am getting the same components as you, and this is what I am planning on doing:

1.) Remove rear supplied Fractal 120mm fan and put in the front of the case to have dual 120mm intakes. Power these either directly from the motherboard, or using the fan controller that comes with the Define R2.

2.) CPU cooling - I've bought three Akasa Apaches, and am going to make a 'wind tunnel', with two in a push-pull config on the Megahalems, and the third to replace the stock 120mm fan removed from the rear of the case. I have also purchased an Akasa PWM splitter, which will allow me to have all three of these fans connected together from the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard. The speed of these will then automatically adjust depending on system load.

This way, you can probably 'set and forget' the Fractal intake fans to a medium speed, and have the CPU area automatically controlled. And you don't have to buy an expensive fan controller. ;)

Hope this helps!

so if the cpu fan is controlled by the motherboard. will this be noisy at all with cpu going up and down? thats my only worry. but sounds like a good idea for a lazy person like me. set and forget lol.

would i need a rear exhaust fan too? because i plan on getting airflow towards the top aswell as cpu. because my ram heatsinks are too tall.

i wouls day that you want to aim the cpu fan towards the back and have a rear exhuast as other wise you wil be pulling air from your grpahics card which could be hotta and restrict air flow more then your ram does

The problem is i dont know if the megahalems would fit with fans facing towards the rear exhaust because of the height of the patriot 6gb ram.

im asking all questions as hope to place an order tommorow and i only have one day on wednesday to complete the build.

thanks for all your advice, been great help to me in deciding.

its a shame ocuk dont have yate loons or gentle typhoon 1450rpm!

im going with josh's recommendation of:

1x Akasa AK-CB002 PWM Fan Splitter Cable [AK-CB002]
3x Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM [AK-FN057]
2x Fractal Design 140mm Silent Cooling Fan [] but hear the rubber mounts dont fit.. im just concerned about this, i hope to get a discount since they are a early bad batch.
