Hi i just built a new computer with most of my stuff from overclockers the prob is when i run games like call of duty 4 or cod 1 im getting screen freeze for like 2 secs or my sound messes up and starts to crackle then makes me lag so i thought it was the onbored sound card so i disabled it and tryed 2 othere cards and its still the same im starting to think its my hard drive not running that fast and making the sound crackle and screen freeze it also freezes if kaspersky is scanning my comp for virus and i try to do something else is this drive ok with my m/b? or do i have the wrong type? also i havent overclocked anything on my computer

Hi,

Have you set the correct voltage for your ram? Also have you disabled the onboard graphics? Are all of the motherboard & graphics card drivers installed?

Thanks for the quick reply D.M i let the m/b bios set the memory voltage for me and i did disable the onbored sound and graphics and tryed 2 othere sound cards also im started to get my computer telling that files are becoming corrupted for no resone i think its the hard drive but im not sure. Do i have to do something for that drive in the bios to make it work right or install drivers? also i ran sisoftware sandra and here is the benchmark i dont think it can be right.

Your mobo has probably set the ram voltage to 1.8v but i think you memory needs about 1.9-2.2v (check 1st before changing).

Try these also: HDTach
HD Tune

One of them has a disk checker to see if any sectors are bad? (Cant remember which one as i havent yet installed them onto my new PC, but I normally use both progs).

Im also a little worried about the PSU you are currently using, cheap PSUs can and do cause people problems :( You have a decent rig there so it'll be worth you getting a decent PSU when you can.

When you built this PC did you do a completely clean windows install? (also did you load all the correct drivers that came with the motherboard?)
 
Hi i did a fresh install of windows xp 3 times and installed the m/b drivers first then sound then graphics. My drive keeps becoming corrupted and i have to restart the computer and let it run scandisk when it happons. I have my hard drive pluged in to the raid o/sata o on the m/b is that right?

Is there a program that can tell me the memory voltage?

Yeah its ok to plug the H/D into the sata ports, they are only running in raid configuration if you actually set them to run that way, and as you've only 1 H/D then its not in raid :)

3 things I can think of: 1) Change the sata cable for another that came with the motherboard & 2) Plug it into a different sata port on the motherboard & 3) Run those programs I linked to or use XPs disk checker to see if any sectors are bad on the H/D.

When you reboot the PC click whatever button gets you into the BIOS and it'll have the memory voltage in there somewhere.

Hope you get this sorted, nothting worse than an annoying fault!

Fa11en, you almost answered your own question there :

You are currently giving 1.8volts. You want to give 1.9volt. Therefore you want an increase of 0.1volt. Yep +0.1v is what you want.

There is something wrong with that hard drive! Im more than sure it shouldnt be giving such low results, and maybe thats the cause of all your problems?

Did you try another cable & another sata port? Also is there a jumper on the rear of the drives (near where power and sata cables are plugged in, maybe its on a wrong setting?)

I would also recommend you post the above image in the hard drive section of these forums, see if anyone there can offer some help? :)
