Probably a silly question.

How do I unlock the CPU frequency in the bios so I can overclock. I have a gigabyte z77-d3h and an i5 k CPU. It won't let me change the frequency it looks sort of faded out. Am I being blind? Please help lol.

Thanks.

No never done it before lol. Just done my graphics card lol. So the ratio is the multiplier? What about memory ratio? It's on 16 (auto) do I leave it on auto or change it? I looked at a few guides and stickies and they all say to increase the fsb but I haven't got anything todo with fsb in bios.
Thanks.

I believe FSB ratios were used with clarkdale and older CPUs to OC. Now its all done with multipliers / CPU ratios.
Find some up to date guides that involve multipliers / cpu ratios and not FSB ratios. Leave the memory as it is unless you want to OC that as well which is pretty much pointless in my opinion

Arghhhh good ol TinyTom Logan. Im guessing because you haven't overclocked before you only have a stock cooler? You should be ok running that with stock volts up to 4.0 ghz (air flow dependant). But anything over that you be needed a aftermarket cooler.

He has another thread in the Overclocking section. He said he had ordered an aftermarket heatsink, i'm guessing it's arrived now he wants to start the OC :)

Ahh fair enough, Ive been away for a few days so need to catch up :p

After reading this thread I need to OC my i5...

I linked the video as hopefully he has a decent molly (smartphone) so can watch the video on youtube as a reference guide while fiddling around in the BIOS.
