about 6 years ago opticians said I'd need glasses next time I went to see them, naturally I avoided going until this moment in time where I realise that I am going blind and I should probably get it sorted before I go to uni on sat. So no I've booked an appointment I was wondering if any of you lot could shed some light on how expensive are/what are the pros&cons of contact lenses because I'd much rather go for them.

glasses can look v good imho. just dont get the chris evans style ones.

cant help with contacts as i have perfect vision :D

I wear contacts, I pay around £20 a month and they are delivered directly to my door. Once they are in they are pretty comfortable and I barely notice they are there, although when you first start wearing them you'll probably have trouble getting them in and out.

You'll want some glasses as back up when your eyes get tired of the lenses, although to be fair I don't.

I much prefer wearing contacts over glasses, you just have to be careful to look after them properly.

Most places will give you a one month free trial, so just pop in to an opticians and try them out.

I was in the same boat as you minus the uni situation but after my eye test last week I had a look and there are a lot of really cool frames out there. I was just being stereotypical and thinking as soon as i dawn a new pair of glasses I would automatically turn into a geek, I ended up choosing a really nice pair of fcuk frames and my glasses are due for collection today. However if you're feeling rather insecure then contacts are probably the best thing for you, but my advice is to check the opticians.

Glasses, great for the workplace.

Contacts, great for going out.

Luckily I only need glasses for computer use and reading, so i'm spared using them outside and spared using contacts (hate the thought of touching my eyes).

I was probably the other way. I was more scared to consider contact lenses. To be honest I guess it depends upon your personality and if you vain or your fear is from "beat up the speccy". I'm an ugly unfussy git so glasses make no odds to me :D

Weaing them becomes 2nd nature soon enough and you won't notice it too much. Only time is when you take em off and its like woah wheres everything gone ;)

For me its slightly more expensive as I have prescription lenses in my oakleys and 2 pairs of normal glasses (one reactions & one normal). If you had contacts you could wear normal sunglasses.

The only downside I've found to glasses is potentially carrying a case and when it rains!

There is nothing scary about glasses! I've worn glasses since i was 11, they can look really cool. I need mine to drive and to be honest a lot more than i wear them for. I've got a pair of wire Ray Ban frames which are really nice and i've just had a new prescription so have decided to splash out on new frames. Found some nice Miss Sixty ones in the opticians but getting them cheaper online.
I would personally say get glasses first, as some people can become sensitive to contacts so take a break wearing glasses every now and then.

Guess I'm just used to wearing them, but I feel completely lost without my glasses on (even though I can see pretty well, just can't read), there's plenty of styles out there so I'm sure you can find something that suits.

sign up to one of those contact lense schemes and you'll typically get 50% off glasses, contacts provided you care for them properly you'll not notice when they are in. if it's your first batch they'll probably give you standard monthlies which you take in and out every morning and night just to see how your eyes respond to contacts. you'll have to build up to wearing them for 12 hours or so, so initially they'll recommend some specs as well. Get a pair of specs that suits your features and you'll look great in them. After a while you might be able to try some extended wear contacts which you can leave in overnight and just change once a month, i don't use these myself but imagine they'd be ace for just forgetting about them for long periods of time.

Personally I have worn glasses or contact lenses for ~27 years. For some things I find contact lenses better, e.g. driving, but in general I prefer to wear glasses. Why? .... because I think I look better in them than not.

I can't say that I've noticed any problems with women when I'm wearing glasses over when I'm wearing contacts, you just need to get frames that suit you ... if in doubt take along a female friend to help you choose  If you are wearing the equivalent to the old NHS specs then you deserve what you [don't] get ...

It's one thing that irritates me when people moan how they don't look good in glasses when its just because they have appalling frames and a decent pair which suit them would make them look really good.

A little off topic.....I need some new Gregory Pecks and was reading an article in a newpaper recently recommending an internet site to buy glasses from after you get your prescription from the optician...but I can't remember the name of the site...help

I got glasses last week for the first time in my life, I was a thinking along the same lines as you, everyone has either commented that they thought I already wore them, or they suit me :D

dunno if someones mentioned it, but i believe you will need a pair of glasses even if you go for contacts. well thats what specsavers always say - and although i wear contacts (most the time) i'm glad i have my glasses handy because there are times where i just cant be bothered to put my contacts on..

i've had glasses for around 5 years and contacts for around 3. in a few years time i'm hoping to get lazer eye thingie. :)
