Probably the funniest thing I’ve read all year

Death by falling Bear, imagine having that on your death certificate. Cause of death, Bear fell on the fella

AI Overview

Schadenfreude is a German word that describes the feeling of pleasure or satisfaction that comes from witnessing or learning about someone else's suffering, failure, or humiliation. The word is a combination of schaden, which means "damage", and freude, which means "joy".
Schadenfreude is a common emotion across cultures, and is often experienced when:
The perceiver gains something from the other person's misfortune
The misfortune befalls someone the perceiver envies
The misfortune is deserved
Schadenfreude is especially strong in people who feel inferior or impotent. It can also be associated with activity in the ventral striatum, a part of the brain related to reward processing and reinforcement learning.
Some say that social media use may increase feelings of schadenfreude, perhaps due to the dehumanization that can occur when interacting with others through screens.

Also reminds me of a Gary Delaney joke - I remember this one time my uncle asked me to spell schadenfreude and I couldn't but he's dead now so I win.

The death of a 58 years old father of 5 is genuinely tragic.
The death of a man killed by a bear falling out of a tree while out hunting for sport is hysterical and a strong candidate for the 2024 Darwin Award.
Hunting has inherent risks so it's basically a case of "mess around and find out"
Conflicting emotions....

Maybe there's a better way for his kids to get a life lesson about the value of animal lives that doesn't result in their father being dead and all the potential harm that goes with it.

It's not a binary position whereby they can only appreciate the value of animal life if their father dies trying to kill animals.

The potential detrimental impact to society from a father leaving their family is far greater than the lost "lesson" if he didn't die.

Being an obvious misanthrope doesn't lend much credibility to your argument, for normally-adjusted people anyway.
I’m not arguing. You have your opinion, I have mine. Out of curiosity, define “normally-adjusted” - this I must hear as it seems to me that you’re focusing on a very narrow, specific aspect of the result of the the man’s stupidity and seemingly trying to create your own narrative to justify killing innocent animals.

Unfortunately he was a grandfather, and has already spread his genetics far and wide, thus disqualifying himself from a Darwin Award.

Definitely an honourable mention though…

Far from funny imo.

They were breaking only one law at the time and that was that a bear in a tree cannot be hunted. The hunt has to stop.

Whilst it's karma I guess, however 5 kids and the rest of his family will grow up without a father/husband etc... someone dying is never funny IMO.

In isolation and detached from humanity it is one of those karma is a bitch things had it been a comedic moment in a film then yes. However I find it hard to find myself gleeful.
