OK i bought a Xtreme Gamer Fatality Pro card .... my problem is connecting it up to my home cinema system.

I used to use a digital (coaxial) lead from the onboard sound card to my sony 5.1 system.

When getting the fatality I realised it didnt have the correct digital out for my lead so today I got the Creative Digital IO module.

When connecting the lead through this - this happens.

Playing through PowerDVD - this gives dolby digital etc...

when playing through Winamp an MP3 track... I just get the front 2 speakers... no subwoofer....

Have I missed something somewhere ?
In the control panel / or creative console - 5.1 is selected.

How do I get the subwoofer working with winamp / or any other program other than powerdvd ?

EDIT :

when playing through VLC player / winamp etc ... on the amplifier it states left and right .... PCM 96 khz coaxial.

when i play a file through powerdvd it turns into dolby digital etc if a dvd - or hd demo.

Thanks in advance.

ok sorted it ...

selected 48khz instead of 96 ..... and its working....

whats the difference between the 2 then ?
anybody explain?

Here ya go :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertz

In short, at 48KHz you're hearing 48 thousand samples a second - at 98KHz you're hearing 98 thousand samples a second.

If the sound was recorded at a different rate than you're trying to play it back it might not work - or it might be 'up-sampled' or 'down-sampled'. This depends on the card and drivers.

My soundcard (M-Audio Delta66) can handle a wide range of playback rates and (99% of the time) just switches automatically. Except when the moon is full and it throws a tizzy ;)

Some Creative cards get around this by playing everything back at 48KHz, up or down sampling as it requires. The trouble with this is that information can be garbled or lost in the conversion. It's better to play back the sound at the rate it was sampled at :)

IU'm not sure what the case is with your particular card - but I believe DVDs are often 48KHz - but don't quote me on that, I know little about them!
