Problem getting into BIOS

I have bought a new computer, not from Oc's, it has an Asus p7p55d deluxe mother board and a windows 7 operating system. I tried to get into the BIOS by pressing the Delete key on startup, but nothing happens and the computer hangs up.
After this I cannot get into Windows without cutting all power to the computer for 30 seconds and then restarting, even this takes several attemps.
Any idea what is going on? could the suppliers have done something to prevent customers getting into the BIOS. Confused.

Please excuse me if am I missing something obvious, as I'm an old fogey?

Thanks in advance

im guessing u can not open up the side panel without void the warranty .. call the people you bought it from and don't buy from anyother place u might get a cheese sandiwch for a grahpics card :O

what marc said it's rare a Bio's chip would fail possible the cmos was'nt flashed correctly at the factory i've actually had that problem but it was over 10 years ago (funny enough asus).

They can actually password bio's but you would have the system asking for a password and resetting the battery resets everything.. to factory.

if the same happens get the main board manual boot up hold Del down and look at the main board for Error lights and check to see if the manual can tell you.

Had an issue like this on a Soltek board years ago. I couldn't get into the BIOS if the harddisk was connected. Don't why it started happening as when I built the machine it was fine, and the machine ran perfectly fine under Windows.

Soltek released an updated BIOS that whilst didn't specifically mention fixing this problem sorted it out.

leverndale, all it does is reset your bios, the bios needs the battery to save the settings etc when power is off, so basicly taking it out just resets it.

It wont do any harm. Iv done it plenty of times. Just remember to put it back in :)

If your having trouble taking it out ( i know i did first time )
some motherboards have a small clip where the battery goes, some you gotta push on top to slip it out.

Thanks marc512, have had a look I will need to take out one of my gpu's to get into it.
Will the Bios settings go to default and if so is that ok or will I have to reset various functions? I'm an old fellow and not very computer literate. I do have the motherboard book.

it will set all the Bio's setting to default really all you will need todo is setup the time and date again most of the settings that come on thease main boards are auto setup and more often then not the battery reset fix's this problem if it does not then it's prob going to be time to start DCing hardware to see if you have a conflict but we will speak about this later and really i would send it back to the shop if that's the case.

Hi,
Reflashed the BIOS to a newer one, no change, took battery out for a couple of minutes, still no change, it just refuses to boot into Bios and then the computer hangs up.
Takes 15 or more restarts to get it back into Windows after I have tried to enter Bios,
pulling my hair out.

Bump, is there anything else I can try? Took out the battery for ten minutes, nothing, new version of BIOS still in the computer, tried to install original Bios file but update will not except it.
Now the overclocking facility V evo, runs at 21 instead of 22 multiplyer, so my system is slower on the new version of the BIOS, what is going on? spent hours on it without success.
Is it time to send it back to the supplier?

Old ******* with no ideas left!

Have you tried disconnecting the hard disk etc? As I said earlier I had a problem like this and I could then get into the BIOS.

After doing that not sure quite else you can do other than contact the company you bought it from. However, don't mention anything that you have tried that in anyway may void your warranty. I would play dumb and ask them for advice on what to do.

Are you sure it's Del and not F1 :P ? and make sure numlock isnt on i have a keysonic and i can't get into bio's on this silly keyboard if num locks on..

If you have an external HD - remove it
If you have a floppydrive, make sure its connected properly
If you spilt water on your motherboard, give up
Some motherboards have a reset switch, i dont know what they look like but if you have one press it. If its big and red, press it for sure because it will do some difference
If your holding a magnet near the motherboard, stop.
Remove all USB things.
Remove hard drive (s ) as mentioned
If you have a floppydisc in your floppy drive, take it out, same for cds.
Remove a ram stick if you have 2, and your graphics card(s) and start up.

These are the issues what iv seen/heard about not getting into the bios.

(ps - iv seen people put fridge magnets on the side of there cases, i wasnt being funny about the magnet thing. That can do some damage)

Tried a wired keyboard but it did not work either, however removing the battery seems to have cured the problems I was having trying to get into windows after pressing the delete key and then restarting, tried the F1 key no joy. Made sure numberlock was off no luck there either. The computer is only 9 days old so I am reluctant to start taking bits in and out. I have applied for a RMA, just hoping it's nothing silly I was missing.
