Not sure whether this is the right place for this or General Hardware but here goes..

I've got one of our clients PCs here which suddenly dropped off of their office network on Friday morning. I have brought it back to our office and been trying to get it sorted. The problem with it is that it won't pick up an IP address from DHCP and even if you set the address manually it still won't access things on the network.

So far, I have tried a separate network card (infact I've tried two in different PCI slots on the off chance the first was faulty). I've done a repair installation on the original Windows install and I've even tried a brand new drive with a completely fresh XP install on. The PC still won't access the network!

I wouldn't have thought that a faulty motherboard would stop a separate NIC from working.. Anyone got any ideas? Any help is appreciated as its got me stumped and I can't be bothered to find a new 478 board to put in it!

Cheers,
Andy

It's definately not the data point or cable thats bust is it? I take it you have it connected to the right VLAN too if they apply.

Its definitely not the data point or cable. It dropped off at their office and doesn't work in our office either.. Have tried different cables and different points!
