Problem gopu/mobo

Hi guys
I just got hold of an i5 3750k on a gigabyte z77xd3h board. everything appears to be working fine but it wont boot with my rx480. The pci e slot works fine with other cards and the igp works fine too. But nothing from the rx480.
Is the board too old to recognize it? I cant find a bios update past 2014 so I'm guessing I'm screwed. Any help appreciated

Return it and get a gtx 1060 and hope for the best.

amazingly, it just posted with a bios update from 2014 lol. I have no idea how but its worked so thanks for your input. Now...sound....oh the joys of upgrades lol
