Hi guys

I seem to be unable to install the catalyst 9.2 drivers.

I keep getting the following error :-

ATI Display Driver
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 8.582.0.0000
Size: 90 Mbytes

Error messages
Driver Install: the driver package does not specify a hardware identifier

Cat 9.1 installs fine

My gfx is an ati 4850 and im using windows 7 32bit.

I was wondering if anybody else has had this problom or knows a solution

Thanks for helping

i think its most likely the fact you are using windows 7 that is the problem, it is still a beta OS after all, i would try and uninstall all ati drivers from your system then try again using 32-but vista drivers, if it still doesnt work, uninstall those and use 32 bit xp drivers, hopefully that should sort it out, otherwise you may have to stick with 9.1 for the time being

9.2's are great! no more random game crashes between maps on CoD4 & 5!
not tried GRiD and Deadspace yet, but so far so good!

Sorry. just realised that was a bit off topic, did you just install 9.2 over 9.1 or uninstall 9.1 first?

hi

I uninstalled cat 9.1 using cat install manager, rebooted and installed 9.2.

I even tried just installing them over 9.1 but still no luck.

I might try the xp 32bit drivers, but wasn't aware they will work with windows 7

@Hellfire260,

I have the exact same problem, 9.2 wont install with that error.
win7, radeon 4850 (hightech iceq4 1gb)

So, trying ver 9.1. I am getting the dreaded atikmdag
stopped responding and recovered errors, and
The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 BSOD's.

Cheers,

Are youy removing the 9.1's from 7's add/remove (Programs and Features), by using the ATi uninstaller from in there, as its a known problem that it doesn't work that way, and won't let you install any other drivers after running it from there.

You have to download the ATi uninstaller, run it, then install the drivers.
