Hi Folks,

I've run into a problem installing a new SATA drive - Seagate 7200.10 400gb.

Currently I have two functioning SATA drives, I installed the third one into SATA3 on the mobo. After first boot I got the new hardware installed bubble and could see it in Partition Magic. I didn't format at that stage. A while later I came opened Partition Magic again and it failed to load. I rebooted and the new drive didn't appear. I shut down checked the cables and booted again, this time during the POST I got:
IDE Channel 0 no 80 conductor cable installed
(Strange error for a SATA drive no? - maybe this message comes up all the time and I'm only noticing it now - post goes too fast to see with the drive)

Swapped the cable, same thing. Tried SATA4 same thing.

With the new drive the computer will sometimes boot-up, the drive is showing in the BIOS, but once logged in no sign of it...

Raid is disabled for all in the BIOS..

The drive is spinning, but I can hear a constant clicking sound - not real loud, but continual... :(

Any ideas?

Hi thanks, I ran the diagnostic tool and it failed the full test...

AtaCore Error 2 in Identify (whatever that means)...

Here's the full report - opinions appreciated...

Recommendation:
If you are not experiencing data loss and SeaTools reports File
System Structure errors, they may be caused by a lock-up or
failure to shutdown Windows correctly. Many times, these errors
may be repaired through normal system maintenance which
includes using the Windows provided "Defrag" and
"Scandisk / Chkdsk / Error Checking" utilities.

If you are experiencing a hardware error, you should isolate
the cause and replace the failing component. If you are unsure how
to proceed with repairs, contact a computer professional. After
completing any maintenance tasks, run SeaTools again to
verify that all errors have been repaired. If errors continue to
occur, the system may not be stable. Again, contact a computer
professional.

If you have experienced a data loss, cease drive operation
immediately. Professional data recovery service is the best
option to recover your data.
