Problem moving files

Hi

I have just built a new PC using mostly new parts and some from my original PC.

The spec is:

Asus P5K mobo
E6850 Core2Duo processor
2Gb Crucial Ballistix RAM
700W Power supply
1 x SATA 80Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 boot drive
1 x SATA 400Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 data drive
1 x SATA 300Gb Maxtor data drive
1 x IDE 200Gb Maxtor data drive

I am running XP Pro with all the service packs.

I have a new SATA 400Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 as one of my data drives, and this is split into 2 partitions. I have further data drives also installed.

I can move and copy files from all partitions and drives apart from 1 partition on this Seagate drive. When I try to move a file from this drive, it copies the file, but hangs before deleting the original copy. Windows seems to be holding onto the file, because if I then try to shut down the PC, I get a message saying that Windows is currently processing a file and cannot shut down. I have to reset the PC to get it to restart.

If I try to copy a file from this partition and then delete the original, it works fine. I can move files into this partiton, but not from it.

I doesn't seem to be a physical problem with the drive as I can copy a file and then delete it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was using the cut & paste method with AVI's, around 350Mb. I'll try the drag & move and also safe mode when I get home and see what happens.

I'll also give process explorer a shot.

Cheers

The problem was still occurring when using the drag and copy method, but it worked fine while in safe mode....some sort of driver issue ?

I didn't get a chance to try Process explorer, hopefully tonight.

This seems a little wierd, I have built a number of machines but not come across anything like this before. I can't see it being a problem with the AVI file size in XP, as I would expect it would happen on all drives/partitions ?

Its not even happening on all of this drive, just one partition.

Any further thoughts ?

Cheers

Okay...an update on this problem and its getting more wierd by the second.....

I have also recently installed one of these Barracuda drives in another PC of mine and the problem is occurring there too, though it is with one of the WD drives installed in that PC, not the Seagate.

This certainly did not happen before these Barracuda's were installed, I have been using the second PC for ages without any problems. It seems that the installation of these drives is having wierd effects.

I have run Seatools on the drive I mentioned originally, and it passed.

I have run Process explorer, and I have taken, before and after. They look pretty similar, but I don't really know what I am looking for there. I can't see how to attach them to this post.

Any help would be appreciated..

Cheers
