My brother regularly plays Fifa 09 online on the PS3. Over the past couple of days when he trys to play online he gets the message 'Session no longer available' this happens just before the game is about to kick off.

On other occasions he manages to start a game without that message showing but gameplay is reduced to a crawl.

From what I can see there is no problem with the internet connection. I have tried Resident Evil 5 online and that plays online fine, no problems.

Any idea's?

Thanks.

Awaits Whappers normal response regards opening ports...

While we wait, why dont you get him to DMZ the PS3 IP address and see if that helps? Im sure the FIFA manual or Google will confirm the ports you need to open to ensure better connection reliability...

In the FIFA manual it tells you what ports to open. Near the back of it.

I suspect your NAT is set to 3? Which is strict iirc.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have a Netgear DG834G wireless router and Zonealarm firewall. Do I open these ports in the Router settings?

Never opened any ports before so i'm a novice at this.

Cheers.

Yep, its quite straight forward, especially with that common router.

Search on google and there are many explanations.

I have finally got around to looking at this now. Setting up a Static IP address looks straightforward enough. The one thing i'm stuck on is the part on the Inbound or Outbound services section.

Now i'm unsure whether i'm using these ports for inbound or outbound traffic. So thats really my question. Do I add these services to Outbound or Inbound services?

Thanks for any help.

Both I would expect but I dont have experience with NetGear routers - personally I just DMZed my PS3 as I couldnt be bothered to open individual ports every time I got a game potentially.

Its not like the PS3 can be hacked :p

Unfortunately the DMZ thing didn't work. The Internet connection was fine, I done the internet connection test on the PS3 and the connection was successful but still couldn't play Fifa online :(

But if DMZing isnt working then opening ports wont help...

Also if the PS3 Internet Connection check is fine (what NAT is it displaying?) then I dno what else he could do...
