Problem playing Thief 1

I have looked at the FAQ on the Thief forums but couldn't find anything to do with my problem.

I bought the Thief 1 & 2 double pack. It installed fine. When I launch Thief 1, it plays the opening intro part. But when it gets to the New Game - Load Game (etc) menu it closes and gives me this error message.

Viewing the technical information on the error gives me this:

Someone on the Thief forums recommended setting Thief to run on 1 core, I did this but still no change.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, E8400 3.0GHz Dual Core, nVidia 8800 GTS 512MB, 2GB RAM.

Any help much appreciated.

Other than fiddling around with the various compatibility modes, the only thing I can suggest is look for System Shock 2 fixes for XP, as it uses a modified Thief engine.

By the Thief forums do you mean TTLG.com? A post there would probably quickly get you answers.

Sorry to not be more help. If it was System Shock 2 I could solve the problem for you in no time at all but I don't really know my way around thief/thief 2 very well :/
