Evening, I got my copy of the new robin hood in yesterday with the plan of watching it tonight with the Mrs. I noticed straight away how damn long it seems to take to load, it got to some menus to select english etc but after you go through that. It gets stuck, it just keeps loading and loading, the main menu screen and wont budge. It did, eventually get there, I timed it roughly at 10 minutes to get to the main menu screen.

I did try die hard 4 in there and that works fine. I also do have a PS3 which I tried in the other room and it's OK, the time at the universal loading screen on the PS3 was litterally seconds.

It's a Panasonic BD30 with the latest firmware on it.

Any thoughts?

Appreciated

Count yourself lucky that it didn't load as the movie sucks so much? :D

Only kidding...erm, no idea. Things like this with BRD are usually related to firmware on the player, though.

Damn, quite glad I haven't bothered with Bluray yet. Sure the picture might look awesome, but it's not much good if the film you have just bought, wont play, even with latest firmware.

Maybe it will require the next firmware update to work. Pretty lame really.

Bluray really is worth the bother... Not that I have had a single problem with my Sony bluray player, and have a decent library of disks. Its just as fast as a PS3 (if not faster), uses less than 20watts of power while playing a movie (beat that PS3), and has great sound and picture quality :).

Im sure Panasonic will get an update out for the BD30 if there is a problem with it. Thats one of the A+++ features of bluray, virtually all players have ethernet, or memory card slots, for firmware updates... With DVD, if there was a disk with a problem, you had to wait for a recall/replacement on the disk! I believe this was the case with one of the early releases of Superman on DVD.

Some discs have problems as they're expecting an internet connection or some sort of memory to put stuff on and they have problems if one of them isn't present. Do you have it connected to your Router? If so, disconenct it. If you don't connect it. Do you have a 1GB or higher USB stick you can plug into the blu-ray player?

Hi general,

I'm having the exact same problem as you, my player is a Panasonic bd 80 which is connected to the net but with no SD card for storage.

I was going to take the disc back but maybe its a Panasonic problem?

I've tried the disc 3 times and the second time I got to the main menu no problem (was just trying it worked) sat down to watch it with the missus this afternoon and it just seems to hang at the universal loading screen after you choose your language.

Most annoying!

I'm going to try miss chiefs suggestion and stick an SD card in and see if it helps, if not I'll try without an Ethernet and failing that I'll have to watch it in the bedroom on the ps3.(the pannys firmware is upto date)

I'll let you know if I get it going. All this for a Russell Crowe film lol

Just a quick update

With an SD card the only difference was it streamed some trailers but still Hung at one of the loading screens but physically unplugging the Ethernet seemed to work. How annoying!
