problem setting up ubuntu server 8.04

So you set it to DHCP, then try and connect to it use the machine name and it gives you an error? can you ping it at all?
Didn't think you could put a . in a name.... probably wrong though

Is .home your home domain name or something?

What does it print when you enter the hostname command?

it comes out server1.home

i tried just server1 in the ssh terminal but same error.
