Problem: Speaker Cut Out at Low Volume

bit late to reply to this i have the very same problem drivers door Mondeo Mk2 (T reg)

standard ford cd/radio and ford speakers

comes on one you turn volume up/ fade to right and turn volume up.

have never got round to fixing it. but i would say its a bad connection.

Would you like me to take pics of my work so you can follow them?

Sounds like something is loose somewhere. Check the stock wiring, as well as the 'tinsel' leads on the woofer cone itself.

Sat in the car this morning.

Stereo on.

Open closed drivers door a few times and sure enough the speaker crackled, cut in and out etc.

So I just picked up some basic car speaker cable from Halfords and will attempt to replace it this afternoon- weather permitting.

EDIT- There is a grommit on the door and another on the A pillar. Can I just string the speaker cable through these or will it get caught, squashed, busted?

Well, had a fiddle, the Ford twisty plug thing was a little loose, the male part of the plug (attached to the A pillar) has been fiddled with at some point and seemed to of sort of fallen into the A pillar a little bit.

I put it back into it's correct place, secured the twisty plug back on and no amount of door swinging and cable poking seems to cause the cut/out crackle that I pin pointed this morning.

I have bought some replacement cable but am going to see how it goes for the next day or so. It may of been an easy fix after all, could just be coincidence so far though.

Fingers crossed eh!

Mine had that same problem, stopped my electric windows from working for a while.

The little plastic tag had snapped off I think meaning the socket had span round a little and fallen. So although the twisty plug was on tight as it was butting up with the a pillar, the socket wasn't poking out enough. They sort of click into place if you know what I mean. We shall see how it goes :)
