Hi all,

I post on behalf of my sister who's trying to use a Belkin 54G ADSL modem/router with her o2 Premium broadband.

Basically she can't get connected, the Belkin router's interface (I havn't seen it yet) insists on the ADSL username/password being populated, but o2 are saying no details need to go in those boxes. She's tried her own broadband details in there but no dice.

Can anyone advise on what to do please?

She can't use the official o2 router, it's been stolen and is trying to get this Belkin working before she decides she needs to order the o2 one.

If your O2 router has been stolen and you have a crime report number that should be enough proof to get O2 to send you a new one free of charge.

When asking for ADSL connection details you have to make clear it is to set-up a non-O2 router.

From memory the login name will be a load of numbers followed by @o2broadband.co.uk

Bane, think she rang up and told them that and they said they wanted £15 instant payment over the phone to attempt to give her the details, but couldn't guarantee it'd work :(

As a side point:

o2 want £50 for a new router, if it comes to her having to get a new one, does anyone know the legality/feasibility of buying one for £10 on ebay and sending them that back when the contract ends?

Not sure if this is any help but -

"For the Belkin F5D7633 this router will not allow you to leave the username and password fields blank for the standard PPOA connection type and so after asking a very nice tech help at Belkin I set my router to connect via a Dynamic/Fixed IP (1483 Bridge) connection type as it didn'r need a username/password."

Thats strange because its freely available on the O2 website.

Its on the help page labelled

"How to set up O2 Home Broadband on your own router"

it gives you all the settings and DNS addresses. Obviously if it doesnt work they won't support it because they expect you to use the O2 router.
