Hi All,

I recently upgraded to vista home premium and although i've got my pc and my 360 communicating OK, i'm having a problem (user error i'm sure) seeing added media directories on my 360. Basically, i've got lots of movie files (of various formats) in c:\movies so i went into the library options on my 360 and added that directory. I was then planning on using transcode 360 to view the movies. However, the c:\movies directory does not appear in the "videos" in media center on the 360. It only appears in the "pictures" section for some odd reason. If i launch media center on my PC then i can see that directory in "videos" but not on the 360 which is where i want to see it ! The only video directory visable on the 360 is the "sample videos". As a test i copied one of my divx movies to the sample video's directory on my pc and sure enough, it worked a treat but i don't see why my 360 isn't showing the c:\movies directory when i've added it to the library.

Any help appreciated.

Not sure how it works on Vista but on Windows MCE you have to go into Control Panel -> Windows Media Connect and add the directory you want to share, is there a similar option in Vista?

Hmm actually don't think that's what you're talking about, sorry :o

I use a program called TVersity, lets you play videos direct without having to use the media center bit on the 360 and is much easier to use IMO :)

Don't mix and match?

Try putting WMV files in one folder by themselves and every other type of movie file in a separate folder. I found when I mixed and matched, no movies would show up but when the WMVs were by themselves, they appeared.

You need to add the directory on the 360 not the pc

Run media centre on the 360 and press the info button i think it is ( on the controller), you then get an option to add directories from the pc

Well, i fixed it. It was a problem with file sharing in vista. Now got another problem with transcode coming up with an error "Unable to queue video file for transcoding and streaming" when i try to play something. Im getting pretty frustrated to be honest. How can MS call it a "media center" when it won't steam anything other than WMV files. Fair enough you can use transcode 360 to stream other formats but so far my impression of it isn't good. It's the buggiest piece of crap i've ever installed on my pc.
