I have recently built my own gaming rig which works perfectly fine until its been on for a mid/long period of time (2-3hours). I'll be playing a game then all of a sudden the montior changes to a grey screen or a brown screen, also the sound stutters and loops on whatever it froze on. My PC is running still when it happens but i can't see anything and the keyboard locks up.

Is this due to overheating either on my GFX, MOBO or something else.

PC SPECS:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7850+
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 "XXX Edition" 512MB GDDR3
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz
Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P nForce 430
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM CPU Cooler
500W Casecom PSU.

Next time it does this, reboot the PC and once in windows, go straight to the Event Viewer and look for any Errors or warnings, this should point you in the direction of any driver or hardware faults.

As for overheating, I think there is monitoring software that can write a log file, that way if it happens again, the log should show what your temps were just prior to the crash? Not sure which programs can do this, core temp? hopefully somebody with more experiance with these types of apps will add more details for you.

KK, i've found the event Viewer and i'll post again when the problem occurs.

The problem just occured so i rebooted the PC and checked the event viewer, i recorded the time of the freeze but there wasn't any errors corresponding to the freeze time???

I'm totally confused.

Yes, i checked both. I think my PSU is fine, ran prime95 with maximum power and everything was stable.

Any programs to test if PSU is stable btw?

These are my temps at idle, load for GPU core can go upto maximum i've seen of 60C, that ok?

It may just be my GFX card, might have to send back to overclockers for a new one and see if that works?

I've noticed in "Event Viewer" at the time of my crashes these two always appear in the log. (Sometimes its just the Tcpip) I obvisouly can't see them at the time because my screen goes to brown colour or black, so have to reboot.

Are these causing the problem? what are they?
