Problem with 1950 pro benchmarking

Hey all,

I am lost as to what the problem is here.

Specs:

6300 @ 2.8
DS3
2 gig g.skill 6400 @ 4-4-4-12
saphire 1950pro
Vista Ultimate.

Basically when ever i run 3d mark (tried both 05 and 06) it starts the banch mark but then within normally the first test although it has gone to second the display driver stops working and it pings back to the vista desktop.

Vista just says the r300 display driver has recoverd and we carry on as normal.

However in 3d mark both 05 and 06 i get one of to messages.

"IDirect3DDevice9::Present failed:Device lost(D3DERR_DEVICELOST)"

or

"IDirect3DVertexBuffer::Lock failed:n/a (unknown)"

I have tried re installing both programs, changeing the display settings to the most basic, numerous configurations in the CCC and used every driver i could find (7.1-7.4) and have had no success.

A quick google for me seemed to indicate a directX dimension, could this be a vista bug?

Any thoughts or comments appreciated?

Something is pulling away 3D Mark's (almost) exclusive device context. Basically another 3D app is running somewhere in the background, or something is stealing focus. Things that can steal focus include little notifiers, dialog boxes, etc.

nope, same problem, ive closed bassically everyhthing else, and have the desktop as scant as possible.

Another thing i forgot to mention is that something similar happens when running CS source and other 3d apps. CS crashes after a while and Company of Heroes frezzes then seems ot recover as the driver does without exsiting.

I had problems with my X1950XT doing wierd things like crashing to desktop, but only in my setup - it worked fine in anyone elses... unfortunately, I only solved it by selling the card and getting an nvidia (and a second monitor :p). X1950's were worth more back then and this 7600 was a good deal ;)
