In 2010 I bought two Hazro HZ24Wi 24" monitors from Overclockers. All was fine until last year, when strange problems slowly started to emerge. It happened on the first, and since a few weeks the second monitor starts to have the same problem.

Problem:

When I power-on the Hazro (via power button on monitor) the green light lits, but there is no image. Sometimes the power button does not respond at all (and there is no green light lit). And sometimes the light is lit, but there is only a black (kind of bright gray) screen. In all cases and at that point the monitor is completely frozen: it doesn't respond to any buttons, nor looks for/finds a signal. There are no stand by or search messages or any graphics. Just a blank/black screen.

The only solution then is to remove the power and replug the socket.

This problem slowly started to emerge last year. Usually removing/replugging the power socked once worked. But now I have to remove and replug the socket at least 10 times, before the monitor works: show standby graphics, search for signal, find signal and show normal image from computer.

And when it works I have no problems at all, and can use the monitor as if nothing is wrong.

The past weeks my second Hazro monitor starts to have the exact same problem... so I wonder if this is some kind of manufacturer error.

Would anyone have an idea which component would cause this problem? As I am thinking to bring them somewhere for repair or find a way to fix them.

The vast majority of monitor problems come from blown capacitors on the monitors power supply (usually inside the monitor, but can come as a brick outside). However this usually results in a flickering/spluttering/beeping (from the speakers). It is a possibility its that and not producing those symptoms though.

If that is the case and the monitor cannot be fixed by warranty etc, taking it apart and replacing the caps is a very easy job (even for someone who has no experience in electronics), there are lots of guides out there for this. If its out of warranty you might want to take the monitor/power supply apart just to see if it is this so you can replace it. I cannot say for sure this is the problem though.

These monitors have external power bricks.
The original power power bricks were known to have lots of problems and were replaced with Li Shin quality bricks
Might be worth checking which power brick you have.
