problem with 780 OC

Hi guys
I've got a zotac 780 amp edition and I've started overclocking it. I've tried both MSI AB and precision x but no matter what I do, I can't get more than 1.1750v effective even with the volts slider maxed out.
I can only get +50 Mhz on my core clock. Anything higher and I get loads of artifacts.
I've read quite a lot about custom Bios but I was wondering if there would be another way to get to 1.2v effective.

Cheers. I've read it a few times actually but I was trying to avoid having to flash a new bios.
Might give it a try.
 
You can have 1.2v normally with Msi ab. It might make no difference though as if the power target is hit it down clocks anyway. Maybe a bios is the way to go for you if your getting artifacts.
 
In ab or prec x, +12mv and +38mv gives me the exact same effective voltage. I'll give the bios mod a go. Is it easy to recert back to the stock bios?
 
You have to unlock more voltage in Msi ab by editing a line in the configuration file , I had to do it as my card was locked at 1.16 until I edited a line in the config file, Then +38 in ab gave me 1.2v. But as I said it did not help much as the power limit is set at 106% for my card so it hits that pretty easily. I have not done a flash on my card as 1245mhz core is good enough for now. Might try it in future though so your findings if you decide to flash the bios might help me and others do the same.
 
Ok thanks. I'll give it a go tonight and report back. My power limit is 106% as well so I think I reach it quite quickly. I'm going to try the non boosting bios flash with 1.212 v as standard.
 
The custom bios for me and i assume for everyone doesn't set a constant 1.212 it just unlocks you being able to set that voltage in Afterburner etc so u can o/c higher . So once you have it all flashed remeber to load up afterburner and increase your volts
 
Oh ok I misread the guide. I thought that it set 1.212 as standard voltage. Didn't realise that it just raised the power limit to that.

Finally managed to flash a new bios!! Took me quite a while but I'm there now.
Benching as we speak.
