problem with artifacting

Hi all

I have a htpc system with a 7300gt installed.

On boot up it artifacts even on the intial screen - about 50% of the time.

After 2 or three resets it starts and runs fine.

Sometimes if I move anything around the soundcar (pluggin in cables etc) it happens again.

Given that it happens on intial screen I dont think it is a drivers issue and the fact that once it is running it is fine - I dont think that its a cooling issue.

Any thoughts?
 
Bloomin heck - that was quick!

Would love to RMA it, but I had to hack a lump off the heatsink to get it to fit - however I am sure that overheating is not the issue.
 
I have the feeling that it is something pyhysical rather than a damaged board as I removed *** HSF to cut it down.

What about problems with the fitting in the slot - is that likely?

Seeing as youve cut the card in half :p and cant RMA it, its worth a try reseating it to see if it gets better.

It still could be faulty memory. I'm not too sure about Graphic card memory compared to PC memory when it comes to problems but PC memory can work flawlessly for a little while and just give out. If Graphic card memory fault can give out the same problems then it's plausible it could be that. I've never had a card die on me other than standing on an a brand new Ti4400 years ago so this is just a stab in the dark.

You could also take the card out the slot and maybe blow in the PCI-E lane as a bit of dust could be in there. Also you could try a CMOS reset. Sorry for not being much help. I hope you get it sorted.
 
Thanks for all your responses - I have already bought another card (just waining for it to arrive) from the mm - hopefully that will sort it?

I don't have a clue sorry. It will be weaker if you are playing games and if you use that HTPC for watching HDTV it might not handle it as well but as I'm not familiar with the card it's just a guess about the HD part of it.
