Hey guys I'm wondering if I have recieved a wrongly manufactured BitFenix extension. I was trying to plug it into my graphics card and felt resistant, so used a bit more power to plug in, however it would not and if I applied any more pressure the connector would break off.

Or has the 6 pin PCI-E changed for the newer graphics card, I'm trying to plug into a 5850.

Heres a pic of my cable, you can see that the top middle is a square (where it should be a triangular type connector) but bent a bit trying to put into my card.

Would be great to hear others experience, as I dont know what to do now, maybe try cut to shape :(

I would get onto OcUK about it. If you bought it from OcUK you should be covered for a refund or exchange!

Will let them know and see if they have a suitable replacement in stock, otherwise will have to try and mod myself, don't want to wait longer, sending back etc...

so is it the cable that is in error or does the gfx card have the old connector?

Hopefully Stulid will know.

Should I mod it or return. Will ocuk even accept a return as I have now damaged the connector.

Thanks for that mate, i actually bought mine just under a week ago from somewhere else before i realized OCUK were going to stock them!! I haven't actually opened them yet to check so think i am going to do a visual check when i get in without opening them so if they need to go back then should be ok about it i hope :)

Spank there bums 5UB :D

Edit

Just phoned the wife :) who informed me both my middle pins are oval shaped and not square phewww! Hope you get your sorted out tankskun sharpish!

GOT IT FIXED NOW!
:D

So the friendly staff at OcUK offered me a refund, but was eager to finish off my build today. I modded my old connector to fit the odd Bitfenix one.

After watching a quick guide on Youtube about removing pins with a paperclip, decided to give it a go. Only staples was all I have. With my uber elite modding skills off comes the version 1 plug. (I'm such a noob though, managed to cut my thumb with said staple lol)

Finished up quite well in the end and good as new. The cables look so much better than my stock rainbow ones haha. Was going to take more pics of my build but had enough for today.

Happy at the end :)

Really glad you got it sorted out matey! I had an issue fitting mine in the end i had to pretty much force it on and they are bloody sharp the plastic plugs!! anyway when i finally got it on i took it off again but in doing so it seems to have pushed one of the male pins out of the plug slightly. Is there a way i can just push it back into the plug without damaging it would you know?

Did you recieve the version 1 cable?

If not then I could suggest just plugging the pin back in, as there will be no way to damage the pin. Only in removing the pin you have to put in thin paperclip/staple at the sides to push the pin holders back.

Just hold the cable tightly and push in. You should hear a little click as the pins lock when pushed in.

Hope that will help you.

Cheers for that matey, to be honest i am not quite sure what version i have. It seems the male end of the extension cable that will plug into the graphics card has 2 oval shaped middle pins. The female end of the extension cable that plugs into the PSU pci-e connector seems to have 1 oval and 1 square middle pin. Would that make it version 1 or version 2? I was not to sure if both ends of the extension cable should have to oval middle pins

thanks again

Your describing a Version 2 cable but with a Version 1 rear plug
Could you post a pic?

I don't think the female end matters as an oval pin with fit in both the square and oval socket

This is correct and should fit regardless. I'm not to sure how to advise if it does'nt plug in (need pic to clarify). Maybe best contacting Bitfenix.

Here you go mate heres a pic, sorry about the quality they were taken on my phone

This is the end that will plug into my 5850 (2 oval middle pins)

This is the end that the pci-e plug from my PSU plugs into (1 oval middle pin and 1 square)

My PSU pci-e plug also has 2 oval middle pins it just seems to be the end of the extension cable that the PSU pci-e plug plugs into that has the oval and square middle pin

thanks again matey

You have a odd combo of a Version 1 Male and Version 2 Female. If you are concerned about it ask kul1 if the cable can be exchanged.

Though this will still fit and the contact will be the same. :)
