I just wondered if anyone else has stumbled across this problem.
My reader will not read blurays - but it works fine with dvds. I am trying to make a bootable system backup and wanted to use bluray for obvious reasons and found out that my system will not read from them.

It appears to be a problem across the range - and MSI have apparently not been very forthcoming about a fix.

Anyone else suffering this problem? I have been in constant conflab with the support department in Poland about this. I must admit they are very good but I think they are as stumped as I am.

There is one semi-fix fudge and that is to populate the bluray using device manager every single time. Then my software will identify and read the bluray. So I think the problem is either Win 8 or firmware related.

I've been having the same problem, but not completely the same. The drive reads the disc fine, and Windows Explorer can see the data on the disc. But opening the blu-ray with playback software returns "unable to read file" errors.

I will try the populating method and see if that nips the problem in the bud.

Sorry if I wasn't clear above - that's exactly the same problem I have. They sent me a patch for Powerdvd but it hasn't helped.

Could you do me a favour and contact their tech support - and mention that you know of others with the same problem (including myself). It might help you never know.

It's not an urgent problem for me but it is a hassle plus it will effect resale if they cannot fix it. Although I am convinced it's a driver/firmware issue.

The email address I have used: MSI UK Customer Support <[email protected]>

Well the populating trick worked so thanks for that. I have fired them off an e-mail with details of the problem, but if I'm to be frank I wouldn't surprise me if they just dodge the issue.

HA! I hate it when I'm right

They told me to do a system restore, which I already tried and told them in the initial support request
