Hi,

I have a Iliyama Prolite and it was getting a little dirty so yesterday I used a cloth specifically for monitors with a tiny amount of water on it and lightly rubbed it, but now it looks awful, there's big streaks everywhere the water touched, I really didn't expect a little water (And I mean little) to damage my screen. I've tried just rubbing it with a dry cloth used for cleaning glasses so it's soft but the marks don't budge.

Any tips or tricks to fix this?

Its just streaky by the sound of it. have the monitor turned on when you clean it, and the warmth will help evaporate the streaks much better.

You should try not to use tap water for cleaning the screen. It has various impurities that can either damage the monitor, cause 'streaking' or possibly both. If you can get ahold of some distilled water and some IPA (rubbing alcohol) that's all you really need - or if you have some speficic cleaning product for LCDs you can also try that. You are doing the right thing using a microfibre (I assume) or very soft cloth, though.

I've ordered some LCD cleaner from Amazon, it has 26 5/5 reviews so fingers crossed it will get rid of these streaks.

You should try what I have done. Once your screen is cleaned properly make a screen protector for it. I went to a local hardware store and bought a sheet of thin acrylic...say about 4mm thickness.

Using a stanley knife and a metal ruler I cut it down to size to completely cover the frame of the monitor. I did this for both my screens.

They are now completely protected and the LCD surface remains untouched and safe from the grubby fingers of my mates who have a tendency to jab at the screen to point out where the bad guys are hiding when I play Crysis.

The acrylic sheet is cheapo...the bonus is your screen remains pristine...so when the time comes to sell it will help.

Only downside is: reflections...so if your screens face a window you might not want to do this.

I got my kit today and it worked great, a really solid buy. £3.60 for a cloth, fluid, case and monitor duster. It got rid of my streaks and most dirt on the first go over, I'll let it dry and finish the job later.
